The Savanna is covered in grasses such as Rhode grass, red oat grass, star grass, bermuda grass, lemon grass, and shrubs. There are also some trees scattered around the Savanna. There are also different types of fruits that grow in the savanna such as, abal, acacia, baobab, and monkey orange's. Plants from the savannas are highly specialized to grow in this environment of long periods of drought.
Elephant Grass: Elephant grass grows up to 10 feet tall in large groups, and originates from Africa. It normally grows in large clumps along lake beds and rivers, and where there is rich soil. The stem of the elephant grass is rough and prickly.
Umbrella Thorn Acacia: The Umbrella thorn acacia is the most recognized tree in the African Savanna. It grows in sandy dunes and rough rocky terrenes. Acacia's don't need a lot of rain to survive in the savanna. Acacia's can with stand high temperatures of 120 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and cold temperatures at night.
Bermuda Grass: Bermuda grass grows in the summer, and in open areas where there are frequent activities like, grazing, flooding, and fires. In a cold temperatures the bermuda terns a brownish color, but in more warmer places like the savanna the bermuda grass stays a vibrant green all year round.
